About Brian Buckner: Brian graduated from Farrier school in Corvallis, Oregon in the fall of 1986 and began shoeing horses in the rural part of southern Oregon that same year. He had his first exposure to the American Farrier’s Association at the 1995 Convention in Portland, Oregon and he was hooked! Brian had so many questions being isolated in a rural community and really thought he could find some of the answers there and he did! He got his CF completed in 1995 in Placerville, California. In 1998, Brian moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he currently resides with his wife and four children. He got around some very talented and motivated farriers who encouraged him to pursue his Journeyman Certification, which he completed in 1999, receiving the award for the highest score in the practical that year.

In 2025 CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital debuted an equine podiatry unit for veterinary students.  Year 1 of the program includes distal limb anatomy, conformation, farrier tools and horseshoes and an introductory lecture on mechanics, taught by Karen Blake, DVM, DACVS, Raul Bras, Brian Buckner and Lexee Maestas and Ric Redden respectively. This totals 5 lecture hours and 40 minutes of lab time
